What to expect
Kings is in a wonderfully rural location.
The hostel accommodation is basic, safe, very clean, warm, tidy and welcoming. A perfect base for relaxation and adventure. Not a luxury hotel...
Due to our mountain location:
WIFI is free, but very slow.
There is no mobile phone reception.
There is a payphone for social calls.
There is no television or DVD player.
The road to the hostel is narrow and steep. We recommend no vehicle larger than a 24 seat minibus.
We can provide a full access statement upon request.
We will provide all your bedding and bed linen.
Please bring your own towels and toiletries.
Please clean as you go, leaving the hostel as you found it.
Kings has excellent self catering facilities.
You will find great local places to eat out in Penmaenpool, Dolgellau and Barmouth.
Sorry, no pets, including in vehicles in the car parks.
Kings is within a Site of Special Scientific Interest with an array of outstanding wildlife. Not to mention our local sheep and chickens!
Climb to the summit of this magnificent mountain and admire
the views across Snowdonia.
You can access both the Pony and Fox's path straight from our front door!
Coed y Brenin
This fascinating forest, world famous for it's superb mountain bike trails, is 10 minutes away by car.
Kings has a great bike shed for storing your own bikes or you can hire locally.
Join this beautiful walk and cycle route directly from the hostel. Journey alongside the spectacular Mawddach estuary and over the iconic railway bridge into Barmouth Harbour.
Climbing, abseiling, exploring caverns, canyoning, coasteering, sailing, kayaking, white water rafting, zip lining, pony trekking and even surfing can all be organised locally.
The national White Water Centre and Zip World are very popular.
Beautiful Sandy Beaches
Our nearest perfect sandy beach is 15 minutes away (by car) at Fairbourne.
On the other side of the estuary, you will find Barmouth. Miles of sandy beaches, an interesting old harbour, shops, mini funfair, arcade and fish, chips and ice cream galore.
Heritage & History
Snowdonia is steeped in history. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Harlech Castle is about 40 minutes away up the coast. Other local places of interest include: Portmeirion Village, Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways and Corris Craft Centre.
